Floral Number Monthly Baby Photos

My little baby Ana turned 6 weeks this past Friday!  How is time going so fast!  Today I wanted to share with you a post on her monthly baby pictures.

For Lyla's monthly baby photos I found a vintage suitcase, some pretty fabric, a blanket (which now hangs out on the futon in our family room), and made a bunting with her name on it.  You can read more about her monthly baby photos here and here.  You can read about how I made the bunting here.
Above is a composite of all of her monthly photos from her baby book. The setup went with her vintage travel nursery theme.
Oh my goodness, she looks so different now!

She is definitely a little girl instead of a baby now.  It is so crazy!

I wanted Ana's monthly photos to also go with her nursery theme so I decided to make the number of each month out of flowers.  This was such a simple project that there isn't really that much to explain.
I waited for fake floral to be on sale at Hobby Lobby.  I gathered up quite a few stems with shades of pink and white flowers.  I made sure to select some that had some nice leaves as well.  Then I trimmed all of the floral heads and some of the leaves off of the stems.  I laid out an off white textured throw that I found at Target in front of the large window in her room.  It lets in a fantastic light that is perfect for pictures.  Then I arranged the flowers into a number 1.  That was all I had to do folks!  It was so simple and they turned out beautifully.  It will be see fun to see her grow next to these lovely floral numbers!
Seriously the light in her room is so gorgeous!  I also had an adorable model as well.  She isn't always a cooperative model though.  I added bandana bibs to my Etsy shop, The Petite Seam and she was  not amused when I tried to have her model one of the bibs.
Thankfully she fell asleep shortly after this and I got some sweet photos.
Seriously that light!

I am so excited for the next post on this blog.  I have been working on a big fireplace makeover in our living room over the past couple of weeks and it should finally be done by the end of this week or the beginning of next week.  Here is a little sneak peak:
Keep checking back so you don't miss the post on this stunning makeover!

Floral Letter + Lace Frame Art

Happy Sunday!  I am happy to announce that the nursery is officially finished.  I will share a full reveal in a few weeks but until then I've got a couple more DIY projects to share from the room. Today I am sharing how I created the floral letter and and lace frame art that is hanging above the crib in the nursery.

The floral letter is actually a repeat project from my blog.  Back in 2014, I created a floral letter R for our porch gallery wall in our last house. I created the floral letter A for this room using basically the same steps (and yes we have a name picked out for baby girl that begins with the letter A but I won't be sharing it on the blog for a while yet).
I started by painting the whole cardboard letter (from Hobby Lobby) gold.
I added the texture that you can see in the paint with this stenciling brush.

I used an awl to poke holes in the letter where I wanted to place the flowers.
Then I used hot glue to secure the flowers in place in the holes that I poked with the awl.

Finally I used ModPodge to attach some lace ribbon to the sides of the letter A.
I didn't take any pictures of how I made the lace frame art partly because they are so easy to make.  I found some open frames on sale at Hobby Lobby.  I used some scrap lace from my fabric stash. Actually the scrap lace in the smallest frame came from my mom's fabric stash and was the lace that she used as part of the bridesmaid dresses that she made for my wedding!  I then cut the scraps to roughly the size of the frames and used hot glue to attach the lace to the frames.  They still seemed to be missing something so I hot glued some of the leftover flowers in each frame.
I felt like the arrangement needed one more thing so I also hung this clock up with the letter and frames.  I actually bought the clock for Lyla's room but decided it didn't work in her room so I am glad to finally find a use for it.
I am so excited to show you the rest of this room!  My next post involves vintage doilies that I turned into art for above the dresser. Keep checking back for that post!

Floral Chandelier

Hello!  I am happy to say that the nursery for baby #2 is nearly finished.  Right now I am in the process of painting the dresser.  All I have left is to buy a crib mattress, mount the camera for the monitor, do 1 more art project, finish hanging decor and organize clothes.  Okay that sounds like a lot still but it really isn't!

Today I am excited to share the 1st of the nursery projects with you.  For this room I decided to go with a floral and lace theme.  If you read my blog then you probably remember the Hot Air Balloon Mobile that I made for Lyla's room.

For this nursery I decided to create a floral and lace chandelier to hang over the crib.  Now my dad pointed out that it isn't really a chandelier without light but if you type floral chandelier into Google you will come up with plenty of images and links of floral chandeliers.  They are quite a big trend for wedding reception decor these days.

This project took quite a few supplies.  Some of them I had on hand and the rest I purchased at Hobby Lobby.  Here are the supplies I used for this project:

  • two vine wreaths (one should be larger than the other)
  • various floral stems in shades of pink and white
  • a stem of greenery (I chose one with several long shoots that I could wrap around the wreaths)
  • fishing line for connecting the two wreaths (I didn't have any on hand so I just used jewelry wire)
  • lace trim and lace ribbon
  • scissors
  • hot glue gun and glue
I started by wrapping a stem of the greenery around each wreath.  I used the glue gun to tuck it into different parts of the wreath until I got the look I wanted.
Next I took the flower heads off of the stems and glued them onto the wreath.  I then connected the two wreaths with the jewelry wire (fishing line).  I made sure to secure the knots with hot glue.
Next I tied pieces of lace ribbon in varying lengths to the bottom wreath.  I had 4 different kinds which really created a nice look.
Finally I attached four pieces of wide lace trim (I had this on hand from another project) to the top wreath and secured them with hot glue.  I tied them together in a knot at the top.  I hung the wreath above the crib from this ceiling hook.

It was a project that went together fairly quickly and I love the way it looks!
Thanks for reading my post and I hope it inspired you!  Next time I will write a post about the decor that you can see hanging on the wall behind the crib in one of the photos above.  Have a great day!

Felt Flower Crown

Happy Monday!  I know, I know, who says that besides a teacher on summer break?  Don't worry, in a few weeks I probably won't be so happy about Mondays either.  Today I have a post about a felt flower crown that I made for my daughter to wear with one of her outfits for her 1 year photo session. I love making flowers out of paper as evidenced by these two fun projects:
Watercolor Paper Flowers
Atlas Roses

The process for making flowers out of felt is pretty much the same.  For both of the paper projects I used my Silhouette Portrait to cut out the petals which made the process a lot quicker but for the felt roses I didn't need as many petals so I just made my own pattern and cut them out by hand. The pattern was kind of 4-leaf clover shaped.
I cut two pieces for each flower. Then I put a dot of hot glue on one of the pieces and laid the other piece on top so the the petals of the top piece lined up in between the petals of the bottom piece.
I curled one of the petals of the top piece and secured it with hot glue.  I then curled the opposite petal around the center petal using a dap of hot glue to secure it.  I continued this process with all of the petals of the top piece and then the bottom piece until my rose was finished.
I bought a simple black headband at Hobby Lobby and glued the roses on the top of the headband.  I made 8 total, 2 of each color.

Finally I cut out leaf shapes from green felt and glued them between each rose to fill the headband out a little.

I chose these colors because of the colors of the embroidery of a dress from Gap that I chose for one of her outfits for pictures.  The purple wasn't actually a color in the embroidery but I thought it would go well with everything anyway.
Don't you just love that dress?  It is so lovely.  I just love baby and kids clothes from Gap.  All of the clothes I have for Lyla from there are my favorites.  Oh and here are a few pictures of Lyla in the finished outfit.

She looks like a little angel!  The look I was going for was a look reminiscent of Frida Kahlo who is one of my favorite artists.  I am so excited about my next post which will be the next installment of the Sewing for Baby series.  I am in love with the pattern that I am reviewing for that post and I can't wait to share it with you!

Atlas Roses

Awhile back I made some poppy type paper flowers out of the pages of an old book for our porch.
It is one of my favorite projects that I have ever created.  Since the nursery has a vintage travel theme,  I decided to duplicate this project using an old atlas instead of just a regular book.  I once again used my Silhouette to cut out the flower parts.  The shape I used was 3D Catalina Tea Rose from the Silhouette Design Store.  It took lots of playing around with the settings on the Silhouette to get it to cut right and your settings will depend on the thickness of the page that you are using.

My mat was not very sticky at all so I used some painters tape just to make sure the pages would stay in place while cutting.
Once the pieces were cut I place them in order from biggest to smallest.
Then, starting with the biggest piece, I used a wooden skewer to curl the petals.
I used a glue gun to attach each piece starting from largest to smallest.
After gluing all of the pieces, I fluffed and adjusted the petals until I got the rose to look the way that I wanted it to.
I then took a piece of floral wire and wrapped a bit of floral tape around it making sure to leave a bit of wire exposed at the end.
I poked a hole through the rose and then put the exposed end of the wire through.  The floral tape will keep the rose from sliding down.  Sorry for the out of focus picture.  It was really hard to take a picture of this step!
I didn't use the center pieces that were part of the design from the Silhouette store because they were too delicate to be cut successfully.  Instead I cut a strip of the atlas page and cut it into little grass like pieces and then wound it around the wire and glued it in place with the glue gun.
I made three roses total for the tiny vase.  I found the antique silver "vase"at a local second hand store called Heirlooms.  I believe it is actually a candle stick holder but it was perfect for my three little roses.

I placed it on the little floating shelf in the nursery along with some frames that are now filled (more on that in another post), an antique perfume bottle and a Peter Rabbit music box that my Grandma Charlotte gave to me when I was a child.  I just love this project and I hope that you do too!
